Shag Carpet, Vintage Gear, and Killer Riffs: Sunflower Fox and the Chicken Leg’s ‘Breathe It In’ Takes Us Back to the 70s

(Minneapolis, MN), March 28, 2023 – Hold onto your bell-bottoms and get ready to rock, because Sunflower Fox and the Chicken Leg are about to take you on a wild ride back to the 1970s with their new single “Breathe It In.” This female-fronted classic rock band from Minneapolis has been inspired by the golden age of rock and roll and is bringing back the groovy vibes that we’ve all been missing.

The band members are seasoned pros who have been grinding for years separately, but thanks to the pandemic, they finally came together to create some magical music. They’re not just any ordinary musicians though, they’re on a mission to bring back the studio experience and capture that vintage sound that made the 70s so iconic.Their playful presence aims to take you back to the way music was by visiting iconic studios all over the country to bring the ‘studio experience’ back to the forefront of people’s minds, and recording the same way bands did in the 1970’s: live.

The band utilizes vintage Marshall and Ampeg amps along with Gibson and Fender guitars from the time period wherever possible, adding to their overall essence. In addition to their own vintage instruments-the team travels the country looking to record on Neve 8068 & 8078 consoles and to use classic Telefunken and Neumann microphones. They are working with producers and engineers who LOVE this style and are literally trying to find team members who are just as obsessed as they are.

“Breathe It In” harkens listeners back to Pat Benetar meets Joan Jet with band leader Kaity Heart’s guttural vocals. It’s a perfect blend of old-school rock and roll and modern production techniques. From the soaring guitar riffs to the powerful vocals, every element of the song captures the spirit of classic rock. The catchy chorus and infectious melody will make your heart race and the soaring guitar riffs will have you shredding air like you’re at a stadium concert.

“Ah yes, the unnecessarily complicated bridge,” Kaity remembers. “A lot of those classic songs would insert one measure of 5/4 or play some out-of-the-blue overly-complicated breakdown, and we thought it would be funny to also do that.”

The production quality perfectly balances the raw energy of the guitars with the polished sheen of modern production. It was recorded at Studio in the Country in Louisiana where Kansas recorded ‘Carry on My Wayward Son’ and mixed by living legend Ron Nevison. He was named Billboard Magazine’s ‘Top-5 Producers of the Year’ four separate times, engineered Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti and worked on several of the band’s main influences including Heart, Bad Company and Thin Lizzy.
